My photographs takes a critical view of social, political and cultural issues. Often referencing “masculinity” and affection and emotions on males of color, my work explores the varying relationships between popular culture and fine art.
The photographs depict men; usually my friends, doing things they like to do. In our society, typically, these things are not viewed as “masculine.” I utilized the unique friendships I hold with each individual to help each photograph express a different feeling or our mutual love and support. The LGBTQ+ men is my biggest concentration, more specifically males of color, in this ongoing project due to this same community not being so inclusive of POC Queer males.
The last series of the ‘masculinité’ trilogy is ‘emociones’. Where I explore the intimate feelings my friends and I hold, from old friends to new friends and the to the love two individuals share with each other. I want my viewers to feel the warmth of love and intimacy through this photographs.
